I'm a retired law enforcement officer with feet in two countries: Brazil and Canada. I write novels, and I've self-published a couple, but now I'm focused on a longer-term plan to gain an audience. In September 2018, two of my books were shortlisted for the 2018 Wattys Awards on www.wattpad.com. I'm an active blogger on my own site, www.grantpattersonauthor.com, and I've become as interested in short essays as I am in long novels.

In the wake of the Parkland school shooting, a discussion about whether we're training and equipping the police to do what we expect of them.
A meditation on what really makes us adults.
A sample of my travel writing, focusing on the difficult and rambunctious city of Sao Paulo.
A think piece inspired by late-night thoughts on extraterrestrial intelligence.
The writer discovers the dangerous knowledge that expensive wine really is better.
The author's experiences as a border officer have left him deeply sceptical of solutions to gun running, unless they involve actionable, real-time intelligence sharing.
