The Economist - 'Disruptive Technology May Change the Whisk(e)y Industry'

In February 2019 I took a look at disruptive technology in the whisky industry for the Economist’s Science and Technology section. It was good fun doing the ‘field research’ for this one and it led to an appearance on their daily 'The Intelligence' podcast.

The Economist's 1843 Magazine - 'Fancy a Sip of 3D Printed Whisky'

This is a piece I wrote for The Economist’s 1843 magazine on ‘3D printed whisky’. A US startup called Endless West created a ‘whisky’ which, unlike others, hasn’t been aged in a barrel. I went on a mini bar crawl around London to test it out.

Al Jazeera English - In Mongolia, using new science to preserve traditional lifestyles

In September 2018 I travelled to Mongolia with the UN's FAO and the Swiss Development Agency to see how Mongolia’s nomadic herders are trying to save the steppe using new science.

The Gentleman's Journal - 'The incredible story of the world’s richest arms dealer, Adnan Khashoggi'

In February 2016 the Gentleman's Journal commissioned me to write a follow up to my 2014 piece in which I visited the hunting lodge of infamous arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. It's a story of his rise and fall and features an interview with Robin Lynch, presenter of US TV show 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

The Economist - 'An End to Goat Plague'

In June 2017 I visited The International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya. They'd just developed a new ''thermostable' version of a goat plague vaccine which they believe could lead to the disease's eradication.

The Economist - 'Knocking Gnassingbé: Togo’s President Suffers An Electoral Setback'

In January 2019 I wrote about an Election in Togo and what you might call a humiliating victory for the country's incumbent president.
