About Me

Hey there! I'm Kate, a British ex-pat currently living in Canada, and before that living on the beautiful West Coast of Ireland. Writing has always been a huge part of my life, both in my career and creative pursuits.

My work has been entirely left-brained in terms of writing. I started out as a primary school teacher, then moved to the finance sector helping small-medium businesses, and finally went on to support customers in the video gaming industry with Electronic Arts. I wrote process documentation and drove continuous improvement while working with stakeholders from across the globe, from Stockholm to Melbourne to Los Angeles.

In that time I found I had a real talent for taking long prose and structuring it into easy-to-digest bullet points designed to be read by people of any skill with the English language.

If you want more about my career accomplishments in writing, I'd recommend you take a look at my Linkedin profile as it's all detailed there.

Out of work though, I'm entirely right brained with a number of creative hobbies!

Given my career I'd be remiss to leave out how big a part video gaming has played in my life - my first ever console was a Master System and the addiction only got worse from there! I love games with a strong focus on story and that gives me a rather eclectic taste - my current top 5 games of all time would be Hades, Bloodborne, Oxygen Not Included, Final Fantasy XIV and Rimworld.

I'm very much into storytelling, which includes creative writing and tabletop RPG's that give me the opportunity to world-build and create characters. I don't want to think about how many words I write in an average week! Needless to say, when you're storytelling with a number of equally driven and creative people that can hit the thousands in a couple of days.

I'm also an avid artist. I draw digital art and paint miniatures, having done limited commissions for both. Most of my painted stuff is for Warhammer, but I've a fairly decent collection from studios such as Kimera Miniatures and an ever-expanding list of miniatures-based boardgames. Like any good miniature collector, the number of unpainted minis far outweighs the completed.

Lastly, I couldn't get this far without mentioning my cats. I am very much a cat person, with two beautiful kitties who have been my constant companions.

Enough prose from me - I hope that builds a good picture of who I am and what I could write about for you! I've a varied experience across both the technical and creative aspects of writing, and I'd be delighted to put that to good use.

Overcoming Roleplay Anxiety

From a personal blog I currently run for my Final Fantasy XIV community. A short blog I created after a lot of new players expressed anxiety getting into the roleplaying aspects of the hobby. Giving tips and ideas on how they can get over the worry, and how to reach out to willing mentors for help.

Why can't assembling be simple again?

From an old personal blog when I was painting miniatures. A real-time experience of assembling a miniature model when you're pushing towards professional quality and don't want those mold lines to get in your way, including a few hiccups and one stupid (but successful) idea!

Writing business procedure to support frontline staff in handling customer issues. Pitched solutions to common frontline concerns, redesigning and making SEO improvements to internal documentation. Point of contact for a variety of global studios ranging from triple AAA (Respawn, Dice) to mobile (Galaxy of Heroes) to ensure their titles received the best support. Handling customer issues through both ticket and telephone. My product - Star Wars: The Old Republic - actively supported creative, roleplay responses to players rather than copy-pasted templates.
