About Me

Zaida Quezada, Growing Freelance and Technical Writer. Creativity and creating subject matter long-form is my goal.

I am a young and recent graduate of the University of Houston-Downtown. I have a degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. I am equipped with fresh ideas and an eagerness to learn and take on new projects. I started writing at the age of 14 during middle school, I was posting my writing on my Tumblr blog until I started my degree. From there I interned in a literary magazine in Fall of 2018 at my University for poetry, Sci-Fi, Fiction, and Narratives. A year later, I was able to publish a poem of mine called: How To Embrace Her-The Ocean.

During my sophomore year at the University of Houston-Downtown, I took an opportunity to become President of The Universities first Creative Writing Club where we promoted our writing to the school and local businesses for poetry slams. In my sophomore Year I also dipped my toes into the real of Education and became the Lead Mentor of the Minority Male Success Program: The Men of L.E.G.A.C.I. Where I mentored and tutored freshman all the way to their graduation and it was a blessing and continues to be. It wasn't’ until then that I began to sail the deep waters of the Educational Infrastructure and began interning as an Editor in the school’s Literary Magazine, The Bayou Review in Fall of 2018. A year later I published my poem “How To Embrace Her-The Ocean” and began working on my writing portfolio for my degree from there and specializing in Romanticism, Poetry, and Fiction. So nothing can ever be dull in the creative process!

Since Fall 2019 after graduating, I became the Interim Coordinator of the Men of L.E.G.A.C.I. For one year before I lent a hand to those younger scholars at HISD. Now I am an English Writing interventionist for K-12 and work specifically with ELL learners and have successfully brought these students from tier 3 and 4 (“Approaches ” or “Did not Meet”) to tier 1 and (Masters and Meets).

Today, I continue to promote and find ways to enlighten those in the education system a well as promoting the infrastructures that support it such as building pipelines from HISD to Universities like UHD.
