About Me

What does it mean to have a sustainable competitive advantage?

If you can’t answer off the top of your head, you don’t have one, or—

—(if dumb luck has dropped it in your lap)—

—you won’t for long.

Also, you’re underdelivering on the good you could do in the world AND leaving wads of money on the table.

I can help you.

Not only have I apprenticed under the Ph.D. gods who literally “wrote the book” on competitive advantage, but I’ve applied their theories and reaped the results:

-I’ve written a single one-off sales letter—one stamp, one envelope—that brought in $40k.
-I’ve turned a 2000 person mailing list into a profitable beta course that brought in $50k—from initial market research to butts-in-chairs—in just 5 weeks.
-I’ve written reports that caused an immediate top-down change in management direction.

Do marketing and salesmanship play into this? Yes—but they’re by far the easiest part of the problem, because sustainable competitive advantage means you have something more than a patent and a catchy angle.

Something that simply cannot be copied, period.

If you want to talk about how you can transform your (or a client's) unique hodge-podge of assets into a solution that 1) not only increases your customers’ willingness to pay, but their happiness to do so, and that 2) your competitors don’t even want to touch—

—AND you’re committed to making a positive dent in the world ('cuz I don't help jerks)—

—then reach out and let's talk about what I can do for you.

Consulting Rates Report

What’s the best way to actually get paid in the medical device industry? Numerous LinkedIn discussions about pricing strategies for consultants and executives in the medical device industry led to this report. After culling data and insight from LinkedIn for the initial report, it was ultimately requested by more than 200 executives and consultants. Ultimately, I was asked to update and shorten the report for use with prospective clients.

Textbook Chapter on the Bottom-Line Impact of Customer Grievances

How do you reverse customer service failure in a way that helps your bottom line? Not all customers and grievances are created equal, as some can hurt a company much more than others. The Pros and Cons of Paying Volunteers

If you need more volunteers, is cash the answer? The committee in charge of the Academy of Management Meeting was having trouble recruiting volunteers, and thought paying them might help. Texas A and M’s Dr. Dwayne Ireland, the president of the Academy and my advisor, asked me to research the pros and cons of this approach and write an evidence-based recommendation for the committee to consider.

Academic Paper on Getting Employees on Board in New Ways

How do you get your employees to adopt and implement novel solutions? Getting staff to adopt new systems, technology, and behavior can be tricky. This academic paper, which was presented at the Academy of Management Meeting’s annual conference, tackles one form of this (the “‘Not Invented Here’ Syndrome”) and empirically identifies factors that improve the odds of getting staff on board.
