nDash Writer Profile for Alison Tennent

About Me

I’m the owner and editor of The Authentic Eclectic, a Medium publication, and I am an experienced, professional, eclectic and passionate writer who works well to onerous deadlines.

I’ve previously run and successfully monetized a blog and I recently published a book on Amazon “Sex Saved Me From A Christian Cult”.

I’ve been a resident of the UK, USA and Australia and have experience of the mental health industry, aged care and mental health and complex life challenges; I offer a unique and global perspective.

I offer authenticity and a willingness to discuss difficult topics openly. I provide political and societal perspectives, relationships and parenting viewpoints, personal essays, the woman’s point of view, humor, fiction and non-fiction, including "This Happened To Me" tales and advice and stories, and I even dabble in paranormal stories and travel tales.

I have a lifelong and genuine love of the English language, coupled with proficiency in writing and editing and a flexible, goal-focused approach.

The Friction Factor

Context Cues and Friction — Two Vital Behaviours You’ve Never Heard Of. Can you really teach an old dog new tricks? Have you ever struggled to make a genuinely positive change to your habits and behaviours? You might be surprised to find that before you even begin, it’s helpful to rethink your planned approach.

Don't Have Children

Imagine, for a minute, that you’re a man. You can make a realistic choice about whether you actually want kids, and your mum won’t burst into tears at the thought of you choosing bodily autonomy. Your friends won’t keep telling you how much you’ll miss out on. Nobody will lecture you about biological clocks - though male sperm degrades, too, and if you’re planning to have kids later in life, men should freeze their sperm before the age of 45. But that’s another story.

Holding Space for Grief

Grief is the last honour we do for the ones we love. The last gift we can give them. Someone I am close to is experiencing grief with a capital G, having just lost a parent. We are tempted at such times to say “Oh I know how you feel.” But you don’t. You do not ever know how someone else feels. It is a cruel conceit to pretend otherwise.

Stop Saying People When You Really Mean Men

Humanity doesn’t have a violence problem, we have a male violence problem. It sounds confronting when you hear it put in such clear terms, but denying reality won’t change reality, whereas accepting and discussing it might. The numbers don’t lie. Some women are violent, but that doesn’t alter the fact that the majority of violence, whether against women or men, is perpetrated by men.
