About Me

         Hi, my name is Sam Stalder and I'm a freelance writer based in North Carolina. My topics of expertise include outdoor activities, travel, science, and technology. I'm interested in writing articles, blog posts, travel guides, "how to" guides, reviews, ranked lists, technical writing, copywriting, and opinion pieces. I am willing to work either as a credited writer or a ghost writer. My fees are negotiable based on the type of project you are looking for, and my level of expertise on the desired subject.

Background

               Before becoming a writer, I most recently worked in the environmental services industry as a hazardous waste chemist. Over the years I have also worked as a professional aquarist, pool and spa technician, fisheries biologist, ski and snowboard instructor, mountain bike instructor, and lifeguard. I graduated from Lees-McRae College in 2016 with a bachelors of science in wildlife biology. My capstone research was a study on human impact of trout habitat and the underlying water chemistry effects of manmade structures. While in college I competed in NCAA division 1 cycling in the downhill and dual slalom categories. I also competed on the rock climbing team, led backpacking and climbing trips for outdoor programs, and led classes in rock climbing, backpacking, and skiing and snowboarding.  

Hobbies and Interests

            My hobbies and interests are all topics I would be comfortable writing about, and its an eclectic collection. Traveling for my hobbies is probably my main passion. Whether I'm headed west to go snowboarding in the rocky mountains, south to the Caribbean for some free diving and spearfishing, or even just a few towns over to a good bass fishing lake, I'm always on the move. Some of my other outdoor hobbies include mountain biking, overlanding (4x4 or motorcycle), boating, paddleboarding, surfing, backpacking, and running. When I'm indoors, I'm usually making something. I consider myself a maker, and with that comes many hobbies and skills, including metalworking, welding, blacksmithing, woodworking, 3D printing, and sewing. I also enjoy technology. I'm an avid gamer, sim racer, and general technology enthusiast. I enjoy smart home technology along with any kind of tech that simplifies daily life.
