About Me

For the past decade, I've been a business and financial journalist and opinion writer, focusing tightly on asset trends and issues related to the $5 trillion money-market mutual fund industry, benchmarking those trends and issues against our company's best-in-class financial data and assessing the effects of those trends on other market participants, such as the Federal Reserve, the SEC, corporate cash investors, and major investment firms.

But I'm not a financial geek (a term I use affectionately). Earlier in my career, I wrote on a variety of topics and issues, including U.S. trade as well as higher-education recruitment and marketing.  My book about the origins of the credit union industry was published in 2012 by the Worcester (MA) and Hartford (CT) Business Journals, and I've contributed stories to college alumni magazines, to major newspapers, and to a syndication network I helped to create and promote through New York-based Landon Media Group.

By invitation from Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts –- New England’s largest and most prominent “outdoor” history museum -– I worked closely with the Village’s development (i.e. fund-raising) office to help reinvigorate its outreach to, and to develop and sustain partnerships with, corporate underwriters, financial supporters, and area chambers of commerce. I also took on a host of related responsibilities, including the supervision of the Village's  annual fund drive and the editorship of its member magazine.

As a teacher of English for a decade after graduating from college and since then as a professional freelancer and financial writer, I developed an intense interest in helping students and adults write better and more effectively. Both privately and through web platforms, I've tutored students who need to improve their writing skills, and I've worked with older students and adults on academic assignments, speeches, articles for professional journals, and masters's and Ph.D. dissertations.

In those varied positions and as a member of committees in my town, non-profit organizations, and -- currently -- on the board of the Alumni Council of my alma mater, Marietta College in Ohio, I've gained and refined skills in research, strategic planning, team building, marketing, media relations, and program development, and I bring strong speaking, writing, and collaboration skills to my work.
